真鍮を腐食させて緑青を生えさせました。
緑青（ろくしょう）というのは銅系の金属の錆で日本画の顔料に使われたりします。
腐食には塩化アンモニウムを使います。ただこれのみだとかなり鮮やかな青に寄りすぎるので重曹を使って緑側に色を落ち着かせています。
白く析出しているのは、塩化アンモニウムや重曹の結晶と思われます。これは直接肌に触れ続けるのはよろしくないので、薬剤に強いアクリルやレジン、ウレタン等でコーティングします。
内側を真鍮剥き出しにしたり、緑青にムラが出るように工夫したり、何かと試行錯誤しています。
I corroded the brass to create a natural patina of verdigris.
Verdigris is the blue-green patina that forms on copper and copper-based metals. It is also used as a pigment in Japanese painting.
For the corrosion process, I use ammonium chloride. On its own, however, it tends to produce a rather vivid blue, so I also use baking soda to tone the color down toward a more natural green.
切れ目があるので、サイズは少し融通が効きます。
帯の幅は手作業なのでばらつきがあります。
